At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, the value of Hands reflects our commitment to putting faith into action. Inspired by the Widow’s Offering (Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-4) and Jesus’ call to “Go and do likewise” after the story of the Good Samaritan, we encourage pupils to serve others and contribute meaningfully to their community.
We believe that every act of service, no matter how small, has a profound impact. Pupils are encouraged to use their hands to make a difference—whether through kindness, teamwork, or practical help—and to live out their faith by demonstrating care and support for those in need. The GRIT skill of teamwork is central to this value, teaching pupils the importance of collaboration and working together to achieve shared goals, both within school and in the wider world.
Our Cultural Backpack reinforces this mission by providing pupils with experiences that connect them to their community and the broader world, helping them understand the value of their contributions. These opportunities equip pupils to carry the lessons of service and teamwork beyond school, fostering a lifelong commitment to helping others and making a positive impact.
By focusing on Hands, we nurture a spirit of teamwork and selflessness, inspiring pupils to live with purpose, integrity, and a willingness to support others as we strive to “Climb to New Heights Together,” we grow as individuals and as a community united by a shared commitment.
