As a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, collective worship is at the heart of our school community at Sir John Moore C.E. Primary. Guided by our school vision of "Climbing to New Heights Together," we strive to create a nurturing environment where pupils can grow in their knowledge, character, and service to others through the lens of Christian faith.
Our collective worship follows a structured weekly rhythm, providing opportunities for pupils to engage with our school's Christian values and connect them to their own lives and the world around them.
We begin each week with a whole-school collective worship led by a member of the senior leadership team. During this time, we introduce the focus for the week, often connecting it to one of the 12 Christian values from the Roots and Fruits resource, such as compassion, courage, or service. These values are woven throughout our curriculum and school life, helping pupils develop wisdom, character, and a heart for making a positive impact.
On Tuesdays, we dedicate our collective worship to singing practice. Pupils have the chance to learn both modern worship songs and traditional hymns, reflecting on the meaning and messages within the lyrics. This time of joyful praise helps to nurture our pupils' spiritual development and build a sense of community.
Our Wednesday collective worship is led by the Sir John Moore Collective, a team of staff and pupils who work closely with the headteacher to deliver engaging, age-appropriate presentations. For our younger pupils in Reception and Key Stage 1, the focus is on making connections to the school's Christian values through stories, drama, and interactive activities. The Key Stage 2 worship delves deeper, encouraging critical thinking and discussion around the application of these values.
Thursdays are dedicated to exploring the Roots and Fruits resource, which provides a comprehensive programme of collective worship materials centred on the 12 Christian values. Through creative storytelling, reflective questions, and opportunities for response, pupils deepen their understanding of how these values can be lived out in their own lives, aligning with our school's vision of "Climbing to New Heights Together."
To end the week, we invite parents to join us for a celebration collective worship, where we recognise pupils who have gone "above and beyond" in demonstrating our school's values. This is a time to affirm the character growth we see in our pupils and to reflect on how they are putting their "heads, hearts, and hands" into practice and each child literally get to "Climb to New Heights Together."
Throughout the year, our collective worship also incorporates references to the liturgical calendar, highlighting important Christian festivals and seasons. Additionally, we make connections to special events and celebrations from other faiths, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diverse cultures represented within our school community.
By weaving our school's Christian vision and values into a structured, engaging programme of collective worship, we aim to nurture the spiritual, moral, and character development of every pupil at Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School. As we "Climb to New Heights Together," we equip our pupils with the knowledge, compassion, and sense of service they need to make a positive impact in the world.
