Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Policy

1. Introduction At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where all members of our school community feel respected, valued, and supported. This policy outlines our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in line with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty.

2. Aims and Objectives We aim to:

  • Ensure that every pupil has equal access to high-quality education and opportunities.

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment, and victimisation.

  • Promote a culture of respect, understanding, and celebration of diversity.

  • Foster good relations between different groups within the school community.

  • Meet our legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and actively advance equality.

3. Scope of the policy This policy applies to:

  • Pupils

  • Staff (including leadership and governors)

  • Parents, carers, and the wider school community

  • External visitors, volunteers, and contractors

4. Legal Framework This policy is informed by:

  • The Equality Act 2010

  • The Public Sector Equality Duty

  • The Children and Families Act 2014

  • The SEND Code of Practice (2015)

  • The Ofsted Inspection Framework

5. Commitment to Equality We commit to:

  • Providing an inclusive curriculum that reflects diverse experiences, cultures, and perspectives.

  • Ensuring that teaching methods and resources are accessible and representative.

  • Monitoring progress and outcomes for different pupil groups to address any gaps.

  • Providing training for staff on unconscious bias, cultural awareness, and inclusive practices.

  • Ensuring that policies and procedures are non-discriminatory and uphold equality.

6. Addressing Discrimination and Harassment

  • Any incidents of discrimination, harassment, or bullying will be dealt with in accordance with our Behaviour and Anti-Bullying Policies.

  • All complaints related to equality and inclusion will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.

7. Staff Responsibilities

  • Governors: Ensure compliance with equality legislation and monitor implementation.

  • Headteacher and SLT: Provide leadership in promoting and embedding EDI principles.

  • Teaching and Support Staff: Create inclusive classrooms and challenge discrimination.

  • Pupils: Respect one another and contribute to an inclusive school culture.

8. Monitoring and Review

  • The policy will be reviewed annually by the governing body.

  • We will collect and analyse data on pupil outcomes, behaviour incidents, and participation to ensure equitable access and experiences for all groups.

  • Feedback from pupils, staff, and parents will inform improvements to our approach to equality and inclusion.

Equality Objectives

We have four equality Objectives for the school. The full details can be found with our policy on this link.

Our Equality Objectives are:

Objective 1

Improve the collection of all data relating to Equality, Diversion and Inclusion for pupils and staff. Ensure this data is analysed this presenting it to the full governing Recruitment and staffing data and trends in regard to race, disability and any gender pay gap by Summer 2025, and report on this to the governing board.

Objective 2

Train all members of staff and governors on equal opportunities and non-discrimination by the beginning of the next academic year (Aug 2025). Training evaluation data will show that 100% of those attending have a good understanding of the legal requirements.

Objective 3

Assess the curriculum intent for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion from staff and pupils’ perspectives and then begin to plan and make adaptations where necessary.

Objective 4

Begin to introduce the ’Everyone is Welcome’ initiative into school during the academic year 2024-2025.
