Coram SCARF PSHE Policy at Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School

At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, we recognise the importance of fostering pupils' personal, social, health, and emotional well-being. To support this, we are now following the Coram SCARF PSHE Curriculum, a comprehensive and inclusive programme designed to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to thrive in modern society and contribute positively to their communities.

Our Approach

The Coram SCARF Curriculum is a spiral curriculum, meaning pupils revisit key themes each year, building on prior learning to deepen understanding and develop age-appropriate skills. The six key themes are:

  1. Me and My Relationships: Focusing on friendships, conflict resolution, and emotional well-being.
  2. Valuing Difference: Promoting diversity, inclusion, and respect for others.
  3. Keeping Safe: Teaching pupils how to stay safe both online and offline, including understanding boundaries and risks.
  4. Rights and Respect: Exploring responsibilities, rights, and the importance of treating everyone with fairness and care.
  5. Being My Best: Encouraging resilience, growth mindset, and healthy choices for body and mind.
  6. Growing and Changing: Supporting pupils to understand the changes they experience as they grow, both physically and emotionally.

How We Deliver PSHE

  • Structured Lessons: Carefully planned and sequenced PSHE lessons ensure progression and relevance to pupils’ experiences and developmental needs.
  • Integration with School Values: PSHE lessons align with our core values of HEAD, HEART & HANDS, and our character values of Growth Mindset, Resilience, Independence, and Teamwork (G.R.I.T.).
  • Cross-Curricular Links: PSHE is integrated with subjects like Religious Education (RE), Science, and our character education programme, ensuring a holistic learning experience.
  • Daily Acts of Worship: Our daily worship and assemblies often incorporate SCARF themes, reinforcing their importance in our school culture.

Key Features of Coram SCARF PSHE at SJM

  • Skills for Life: Pupils develop practical skills for managing emotions, making healthy choices, and navigating relationships.
  • Inclusivity and Respect: Lessons create a safe and welcoming environment, celebrating diversity and promoting equality and respect.
  • Pupil Voice: Pupils are encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas, ensuring their voices are valued and reflected in our school practices.

Supporting Development

At Sir John Moore, PSHE is more than a subject—it is a cornerstone of our school culture. By embedding the Coram SCARF Curriculum into daily routines, assemblies, and the wider curriculum, we aim to nurture confident, compassionate, and well-rounded individuals who are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the world.
