At Sir John Moore, pupils study the 2021 Leicestershire Agreed Syllabus, which has been created for Leicestershire SACRE and approved by Leicestershire County Council. This provides a syllabus for religious education (RE) for Leicestershire schools. Since 1944, all schools have been required to teach RE to all pupils on roll (except those withdrawn by their parents). RE remains part of the basic curriculum for all pupils.
This syllabus explains the value and purposes of RE for all pupils and specifies for teachers what shall be taught in each age group. It provides a coherent framework for setting high standards of learning in RE and enabling pupils to reach their potential in the subject.
This builds upon the strengths of the previous syallabuses and provides vision of, and a basis for, the development of RE from 2021-2026.
This newly combined RE Syllabus for Leicestershire pupils establishes what will be taught in RE in Leicestershire schools, providing teachers with practical support and guidance about how to teach RE effectively through the strong understanding of Christianity.

As a Church of England school, our R.E curriculum is also enhanced by deep-rooted connections to our local church, St Michael's, in Appleby Magna, and the wider spiritual community of our diocese.
