At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, we believe that every pupil has the potential to inspire and lead. The SJM Collective is a group of dedicated volunteers from across KS2 who take on the special role of delivering engaging and meaningful worship sessions to the rest of the school. Through their work, these pupils embody our school values of Head, Heart, and Hands, fostering a sense of community, reflection, and connection.
The SJM Collective is a voluntary group open to pupils in KS2 who wish to lead and support worship within the school. Working closely with staff, these pupils create and deliver worships that are thought-provoking, inclusive, and centered on our Christian ethos. Their work is a wonderful example of our school's motto: "Climbing to New Heights Together."
The SJM Collective takes a hands-on role in planning and delivering worships, incorporating a variety of elements to engage and inspire the whole school community. Each worship begins with current and relevant themes from Picture News, helping pupils connect their values to real-world events. The Collective centers their worships on the Head, Heart, and Hands framework. They share knowledge and wisdom to encourage pupils to think deeply, foster compassion and a sense of belonging, and inspire action and service within the school and community. The children write and share their own prayers, providing personal and meaningful contributions to each worship. They bring in objects, visual aids, and props to make their sessions dynamic and engaging. The Collective’s worships are designed to resonate with their fellow pupils, making them accessible and impactful.
The SJM Collective delivers at least two worships per month, ensuring a consistent presence in the spiritual life of our school. They lead worships for KS1 and Reception, KS2, and the whole school community. In addition to school-based worships, the SJM Collective has also led services at the local church, strengthening the connection between school, faith, and the wider community.
Each member of the SJM Collective receives training to develop their confidence and skills as worship leaders. Many of these children have blossomed in their roles, demonstrating improved confidence in public speaking, a deeper understanding of our Christian values, and leadership qualities that inspire their peers.
For pupils, joining the SJM Collective is an opportunity to develop leadership skills and take on a meaningful role in the school community, express creativity through planning and delivering worships, build confidence by speaking and sharing in front of others, and live out our values of Head, Heart, and Hands in a practical and impactful way.
"Being part of the SJM Collective has helped me feel more confident. I love writing prayers and seeing my friends listen to what we’ve made." – A KS2 Member of the SJM Collective.
The SJM Collective plays a vital role in the spiritual life of Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, demonstrating how pupil leadership can enrich the community. We are incredibly proud of their dedication, creativity, and compassion, and we look forward to seeing how this group continues to grow and inspire.
