School Council

School Council at Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School

At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, our School Council is at the heart of our school community. These dedicated pupils are the voice of their peers, working tirelessly to make a positive difference within our school and beyond.

What We Do

  • Championing the Local Community: We are passionate about supporting our wider community and have proudly partnered with the Ashby Food Bank to help families in need. Through our efforts, we learn firsthand the power of compassion and giving back.
  • Collaborating with Other Schools: As part of the Collaboration 360 group, we join forces with other schools to take part in engaging events and inspiring meetings. A recent highlight was our visit to Coalville Can, where we shared ideas and explored innovative projects with peers from across the region.
  • Living Democracy: Democracy came to life for our school this year as we held our School Council elections on the same day the UK Parliament went to the polls. This real-world connection gave pupils a hands-on opportunity to understand the voting process, the value of their voice, and the importance of active citizenship.

Our Roles and Responsibilities

You can easily spot our School Council members by their bright yellow lanyards. They proudly represent their peers and take on important responsibilities, including:

  • Welcoming Visitors: From showing parents and carers around during school events to hosting distinguished guests like the High Sheriff of Nottingham, our council members are confident ambassadors for our school.
  • Answering Questions: Always approachable, our council members are on hand to listen to ideas, answer queries, and act as a bridge between pupils and staff.
  • Improving Our School Environment: This year, we’re excited to work with the Friends of Sir John Moore (PTA) to enhance our outdoor spaces and make breaktimes even more enjoyable for everyone.

The School Council is more than a role—it’s a chance for pupils to grow as leaders, make meaningful contributions, and shape our school’s future. We are proud of the work they do and the example they set for others.
