Heart - Character and Compassion

HEART – Character and Compassion

At Sir John Moore C.E. Primary School, the value of Heart represents our dedication to cultivating kindness, empathy, and love, focusing on developing the whole person. Inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and Jesus’ command to “love one another,” we encourage pupils to show compassion in action, recognizing the importance of caring for others and building meaningful connections.

Our school promotes character development by integrating opportunities for pupils to practice empathy and compassion in their daily lives. Through GRIT—Growth Mindset, Resilience, Independence, and Teamwork—pupils learn how to embody these values while growing as individuals who can face challenges with courage and grace.

The Cultural Backpack plays a vital role in supporting this development, offering pupils experiences that help them understand diverse perspectives and appreciate the importance of inclusion and community. These opportunities empower pupils to carry the values of kindness and empathy into the world, equipping them to foster positive relationships and make a difference in society.

By focusing on the Heart, we aim to nurture pupils’ emotional intelligence, character, and spiritual growth. Together, we create a compassionate and inclusive school environment where every child feels valued and empowered to thrive, while preparing them to spread kindness and love in their broader communities.
